The Orientation Centre is a Government institution situated on the westernmost side of the cliff edge and the pinnacle of Uji, serving as the central venue for The Official Adulthood Initiation and Inauguration. Each cycle, as a birth group turns adult on their 15th birth day, they pass through the threshold of this structure as part of their designated rite of passage.
Following 'The Jump' (a traditional descent into the waters below the cliff) new-adults return via the stone steps and pass beneath the white arch that separates the cliff edge from The Orientation Centre. Inside, the process divides. New adults are led to initiation, while their parents gather within The Inner Dome Auditorium for briefings on new-adulthood care.
Once initiation is complete, the new adults re-enter the auditorium in procession, taking their place upon the Inner Dome stage. There, they witness first-hand a stirring address from The Chief of Uji before each receiving their adult mark brand — a defining moment that formalises their status as adults within Korainian society.
From there, they exit through side corridors into The Orientation Centre's gardens, set beside the dam that regulates the waterfall beyond. The Ceremony concludes as young Korainians depart to prepare for The Maturity Ball at The Ovum to conclude their first day as adults.
The Orientation Centre operates under the Second Rank — led by Elder of Maturity, Elder Gaynor — and serves as the base for The Department of New-Adult Initiation and Inauguration. Positions within this department are highly coveted, often filled through legacy employees, offering both prestige and an atypical cyclical workload that allows for generous time off.
The narrative heart of WOKU. An era with a plethora of stories and experiences, each exploring the Korainian world in unique ways.
