Formally known as the Lowest Lower Region, “The Pits” is the southernmost sub-region of The Mainland. Nestled within a steep valley near the marshes that separate The Mainland from the Colony Outlands, its colloquial name derives from its sunken geography, as the district sits in a natural depression between the raised industrial plateau known as the Factorylands.
Above the valley, the Factorylands contain the manufacturing complexes and infrastructure that employ much of the area’s population, while adjacent farmlands extend further inland. To the north of the Factorylands stands the Gorton betting house, the oldest continuously operating betting establishment on Uji and a popular entertainment venue for residents of the Lower Regions. The venue hosts a variety of wagering games, including horse racing bets, with transactions commonly conducted using quartz discs.
The Pits functions primarily as a centre for farming and manufacturing within the Lower Regions. The factories above produce goods for numerous Ujian businesses, including Tassan Electronics and Lei Electronics, they also construct technology for The Government — from official tablets to the steam-powered Law Enforcer trucks.
Populated predominantly by Blackscale Korainians, the district remains closely connected to the surrounding valley communities of the mid-lower region. Despite limited infrastructure and economic development, The Pits remains culturally rich and socially close-knit, with many residents contributing to the essential labour systems that support the rest of The Mainland.
