This publication, City Korai Daily Magazine — Issue 4708 (Day 76, 267AL), is a cultural capsule of Upper Region media during Cycle 267AL. As a Government-sponsored publication, it offers a rare glimpse into the values, language, and societal expectations reinforced through contemporary entertainment, daily advice, and sanctioned commentary. Featuring columns on Soulmate culture, Mainland demographics, Upper Region cuisine, and Government-approved programming, this issue serves as a snapshot of Korainian life and its carefully maintained public narrative.

The extract reads:

A NOTE FROM THE CITY KORAI DAILY MAGAZINE PRODUCTION OFFICE AS ALWAYS THANK YOU.

Here at City Korai Daily Magazine, we are continually grateful for our government sponsorship. As a government-sponsored production, we are enabled with the resources and access that allow us to remain an editorial force capable of providing the highest level of informative and compelling columns to our loyal daily readership. We are repeatedly and consistently astonished by the gracefulness of our government contacts, and extend to them a humble thanks for their around-the-clock professionalism and guidance. We thank them for their input and correction of our 4706th issue’s column in this eight’s series, clarifying Elder Gorton’s misinterpreted interview quote through their special column as seen in our previous issue. Without them, we could not do what we love to do. Once again, thank the government for empowering us to provide you with UPPER REGION ENTERTAINMENT.

We all know time waits for no one. While communal water clocks and public pendulums may be all timekeeping an average Korainian needs, the attuned tick of Wristwatch Number 74 was not designed for them. It was designed for the busy Korainian of the city, the Korainian with appointments to keep, the Korainian who respects the hours of the day. Sure, we all know time waits for no one. However with Wristwatch Number 74, you will find it ticks differently for you.

DAILY SOULUTIONS COLUMN

WHAT DOES ONE DO WHEN IN THE REALM OF DATING? HOW DOES ONE APPROACH A LANDSCAPE SO DAUNTING? CLEARLY YOU NEED ADVICE THAT IS SOLEMN. TIME TO READ TODAY’S SOULUTIONS COLUMN!

THE DAILY ADVICE: GET PREPARED.

Women and men, get prepared. The hunt for a soulmate can be an arduous one. It can seem overwhelming, searching through the thousands on our planet for the one. In any case you must remember statistics show most soulmates are paired within their own or neighbouring region! Why not make a list of every potential in your area? There’s no better place to start than an organised chart!

How to begin? Make a list. Go ahead and list everything you wish for the universe to deliver to you in a soulmate pairing. Don’t be shy about it either. Those bold enough to define their hopes are usually the most fortunate among us! Now that you have your list, position them in rows on a sheet of paper. Next, you’ll want to make your columns a sectioning of distance — one street away, two streets away, and so on. Finally, fill in those blocks with potentials in your area, repeating the names of Korainians that fulfil more than one of your wished-for soulmate characteristics.

Step back, and look at your work. It all seems clearer now, doesn’t it? You can pick out the names of potentials that appear in multiples, and order them from most likely to least. The only thing now left for you to do is hope to the stars you’ll be lucky enough to test them!

Good luck, soulmate searchers!

DAILY HEAD LINE COLUMN | THE GOVERNMENT CHOOSES LEGACY AND ANNOUNCES MAYA MIYAR AS ADELINE

The decision is in. The Department of Programming sides with legacy, choosing the great-granddaughter of Gemma Miyar, the original Adeline and Arias lead, to take on the starring role in an upcoming rebroadcast of the Korainian classic.

Waist-length hair the colour of clouds and piercing grey eyes with infinite depth — it’s no surprise the Department of Programming see Maya Miyar as the perfect modern iteration of Adeline Row. After the success of recent rebroadcasts of other classic Ovum shows, the government has sponsored visual production studio Starlit Studios to produce a modern version of the Korainian favourite.

Everyone — even your heads-in-the-stars uncle — knows Adeline and Arias. The tale of two potential soulmates struggling to fulfil their wish to test each other did not only become an instant classic, but was in fact the last classic monochrome show to be Ovum-developed and aired before the government’s digital overhaul in the early cycles of the 200s.

After colour-capable programming boxes revolutionised visual media, programming was never the same. However, Adeline and Arias isn’t just the last of classic Ovum-produced shows — it was also the first of any programming to feature a Blackscale character broadcast into the homes of Korainians across the mainland.

Juli Wend, originally portrayed by Acre Rhoss, was an antagonist for the ages. Menacing black eyes and a cunning grin, the night to Adeline’s day played a large part in the show’s lasting success. Though the boat is still out on who will bring the character back to life, our contacts in the government inform us they’ll be happy with whomever Starlit Studios believe will do the role justice.

“The Department of Programming felt very strongly in the selection of the next Adeline Row,” said our contact. “In sharing the suggestion of Miss Maya Miyar with the directors at Starlit Studios, they emphatically agreed that the legacy of the role deserved such pedigree.”

We too emphatically agree with the verdict.

As though rival actress Yui Gorton was rumoured to be close to securing the role, whispers within the city suggest the programming-box newcomer struggled in audition. Well — better luck next time, Yui.

Show business be as it may, there’s sure to be no disappointments in this classic revamp. Some remain sceptical of such retellings, especially after Guidance Studios broadcast their half-hearted rendition of O’ My Sunny Skies — the comedic classic about the woman who accidentally began two flings at once. The extract reads:

Korai Daily had a few choice words about the revamp-rebroadcast back then, like “unfunny” and “poor taste.” However, after Starlit Studios’ triumphant modernisation of the classic drama Love to Sea, the upper region was moved. Now, just eight cycles after their elevation to government-sponsorship, the production office have been entrusted with what is arguably the most iconic of all classic Korainian shows.

Excited to hear more about the upcoming production, we reached out to Maya Miyar to gain her perspective on the role of Adeline. Our headline correspondent interviews:

MAYA MIYAR, A PERFORMER WITH A FAMILIAL LEGACY IN PROGRAMMING, ARRIVES AT OUR OFFICES DRESSED IN YELLOW AND WEARING A SMILE AS EFFERVESCENT AS HER DRESS.

Thank you for coming in to see us, Maya. Our readers will appreciate getting to know you ahead of the rebroadcast. We understand you’re a Day 73 born — I offer belated well wishes on your birth-day just passed.*

It’s no problem at all! I’m grateful for the invitation to begin with, and thank you for the well wishes — you’re so kind.

And you are delightful. So, Adeline and Arias — this is the big time, correct me if I’m wrong, but up until now you’ve been focused on non-visual productions?

Yes, that’s right. I’ve been fortunate enough to work with the talented production office of City Radio as a recurring voice on their daily radio-casts. The productions I’ve worked on have been incredibly varied too, and it’s been a great opportunity to improve my skills. I can just about hold a tune now!

That’s amazing — we love City Radio in the office! I believe we’ve caught you on a few casts. You’re too humble; your voice is wonderful!

Well thank you! But there is room to improve. Coming from a long line of performers, there are high expectations in my familial household!

Yes, I’d expect there would be. Speaking of lineage — tell me, how does it feel to be reprising the role your own great-grandmother originated back in 204L?

Honestly, it is entirely unreal. As third-wave settlers, my great-grandmother was the first of my lineage to be born and raised in the mainland. She carved a path for every Miyar to follow, all because of her incredible gift as a performer. I feel humbled beyond words that the government would look to me to take her place. I only hope I can live up to expectations!

It sure is a large ship to steer. However, you’re no newcomer to the industry yourself!

(Maya laughs)
Yes — this is my third cycle working as a performer. I’ll admit, I’m feeling confident about the future.

Glad to hear it! So, besides your blossoming career, what else is Maya Miyar looking forward to in the future?

Finding a soulmate! (Maya laughs) I’ve been an adult for three cycles, but I’ve barely been on any dates! I dove head-first into the world of work, and I’ve become so busy since. There isn’t space in my schedule for romance. Ironic, I know! Since I’ll be playing Adeline — she’s a very passionate character! I’m mostly just passionate about my work. And my pet ribbon eel.

You have a pet ribbon eel? How sweet. What’s its name?

His name is Silky! I know — so childish. Stars, no one will date me after reading this!

I find that hard to believe, Maya! Take it from us — you’re a catch. And if you’re needing some help in the soulmate search, our daily Solutions column gives some sound advice.

I’ll have to pick up a copy on my way out. Perhaps the universe is already guiding me towards love as we speak!

That’s the spirit! Take it from Adeline and Arias — if guidance is what you wish for, love is what you’ll receive! Thank you again for your time, Maya. It’s been great — good luck with the role.

DAILY RECOMMENDATIONS COLUMN | WHAT TO EAT IN THE CITY

If I’ve heard, it’s likely you have too. My stars, what a time to be alive! After successful trials, the restaurants of City Korai have unanimously agreed to make doorstep delivery available to the entire Upper Region. Finally — no having to book tables eights in advance or shuffle with the midday-dinner breakers. Simply get to a phone, dial to your favourite restaurant, and have their staff arrive in a carriage couriering your food. With such great news, City Korai Daily Magazine decided to bring back its recommendations article for this issue to let you know what we’ve been ordering.

I love a well-brewed tea, and Lora’s Teashop is known for its smooth flavours. The small teashop is usually packed during the midday break, which means it’s likely you’ve never tried their amazing midday special. Now with doorstep delivery, you can order their delicious double-boxed savoury and sweet midday-dinner treat direct to your work desk, with food this good in close range, why not reward yourself for working hard?

The Korainians in our office love a high-class meal. Chomapaparichou opened its phone-lines to doorstep-delivery this eight, and our offices were soon wafting with the mouth-watering aroma of braised aromatic shrimp, served with Mountu-style rice and a honey brine. Be prepared to drain your quartz account on the most expensive meal you’ll ever have!

To round out our list we have an honourable mention: The Red Kitchen, a Sandya-cuisine themed restaurant, serve a coconut-drizzled crab stew that can only be described as lush. If you’re ever in the mood for penetrating peppery flavours, highly recommend a dial to this land lot.

Those are our top recommendations to keep your belly warm. Don’t forget to mention City Korai Daily when you order, and enjoy your restaurant-tier cuisine in comfort!

THE FASCINATING STATISTICS ON THE LAST NAMES OF KORAINIANS

In cooperation with the Statistics and Mapping Department

Owing to the courtesy of the Government’s Statistics and Mapping Department, we are permitted access to the raw government data collected for the record-keeping and development of Korai Uji.

Our daily analysis in this issue highlights an intriguing discovery when comparing the total number of unique last names within the Mainland. When mapping the records from 187AL over 80 cycles to our current cycle 267AL, it is observed the number of unique last names have depreciated since its peak in 227AL. In today’s column, we suppose how and why.

By compiling data of the recurrences of last names (including only cases of same-spelling due to the likely separate clan and/or tribe origins of alternate phrasings), we can extrapolate the inverse findings of unique naming. From this, we uncover there to have been 834 unique last names in 187AL, seven cycles post the Third Wave of Confirmation.

When considering the clan-based societal systems of Uji pre-200s, this is understandable — as tribe members of up to 40 Korainians often shared last names. However, after integration with the Mainland, dilution of previous tribe affiliations occurred. This is denoted by the swift doubling of unique last names by 209AL.

Our experts derive the specific cause of this to be the clan tradition of name-unification taking effect. In cases where the committing partner was from a tribe of equal size and influence, it was once common to join names rather than absorb one. For example, the legacy of our own Chief — Mister Ieh and Miss Day — became Iehday, creating a unique last name from the pairing. This practice continues to take place on the Mainland as tribes amalgamate, reaching its peak in 229AL.

Three generations after the Third Wave of Confirmation, tribe traditions are forgone in favour of modern commitment practices. As name-unification falls out of fashion, preferable-name adoption grows in popularity. In today’s society, Korainians opt to inherit the last name of the individual in the pairing with the most flattering historical lineage or future prospects.

In our Chief’s lineage, Keyso (son-by-soulmate name) becomes Ieday (from daughter), as the Ieday name possesses deeper Mainland roots from Ieh — a lineage known to be a First-Wave settling clan.

Due to this shift in naming practices, we begin to see a consolidation of last names. While some clan names are lost to time, remnants of others remain strong. As exhibited in the graph above, Second Wave of Confirmation settlers are shown to have the smallest depreciation in unique names in comparison to First and Third Waves. Our experts believe this is due to the prominence of tribes known to have joined the Mainland in this period — prideful legacies resulting in descendants harbouring a lessened inclination to absorb names.

Conversely, First Wave settlers are known to consolidate bloodlines and names to unify heritage, whereas Third Wave settlers are the most common to adopt the names of others.

Taking into account the recent dive in unique names, if the trend of preferable-name adoption continues on its current curve, our projections predict all Korainians on Uji will share the same last name before the 400th cycle after law.

Reader Response

Here is where we turn our findings to you. Let us know what you think. Send a letter response to the City Korai Daily magazine offices for a chance to appear in the next issue.

Reader Elaine, from the Upper Region, comments on last issue’s statistics:

“Surprised to hear so many Korainians live under one roof in the Low Lower Region. I hope they all get their hour in the tub! I’d go insane if I didn’t! My stars!”

The extract reads:

THIS EIGHT’S COLUMN SERIES CONTINUED PARENTING A KORAINIAN ON THE VERGE OF ADULTHOOD

If your young Korainian is starting intermediate school this Eight, this is the article for you. Head Lecturer of City Korai Academy, Hugh Mono, speaks to City Korai Daily about how he guides the premier intermediate school on Uji and its students to success.

An accomplished university graduate himself, Hugh Mono runs City Korai Academy just as his old head lecturer did — but stricter.

“It’s important to steer young minds,” says Hugh, whilst he tours us through the pristine premises of the premier school. “If given even a moment to themselves, pre-adults devolve into childish demeanour. Here at City Korai Academy we keep their heads in their books to ensure their learnedness in the rulings of our Chief and guided government. No student of mine will leave intermediate schooling without a thorough understanding of our land and its laws.”

It isn’t all lectures and study halls, however. Hugh Mono speaks of the Academy’s thriving club activities, as well as the impressive alumni the school has spawned. “Lexi Lidarso, the professional diver, coaches our diving club,” Mono informs us. “Even the Chief’s own granddaughter, Marsh Ieday the famed horizontal harpist, is a past student of ours. She often returns to conduct our orchestral club. Many of our graduates return to support lecturers and lend their talents. In fact, our students are very fortunate to gain such wonderful guidance from their predecessors.”

Undoubtedly, it is indisputable the calibre of talent that arises from City Korai Academy. However, nothing is achieved without effort. “I push the students as hard as I push myself,” Hugh says. “Knowing I do my best to mould them into ideal Korainians is what allows me to slip into hibernation without troubles.” With his 8th cycle of stewardship on the horizon, it’s clear to see that with Hugh Mono helming the ship, this institute of learning will be riding high tides for the foreseeable future.
